Hi

I read about a game for children or adults called 'timebomb'. Do you know it ?

A small group of students take it in turns to say UP TO 3 numbers. So, for example, the first person could say '1' or '1,2' or '1,2,3'.

The next person and those that follow can also choose to say 1, 2 or 3 numbers, but the aim of the game is to avoid saying a particular number, say '12'.

If you are forced to say it then you sit out until the next round or the game starts again.

The first week I did it with numbers which proved quite easy for children, but try doing it with the alphabet and it's a different story.

I tried it with a lively lower adult group and it went down well.

That's a good idea for a game with a few twists I haven't tried yet. Looks like I have something for this week.

I got another good idea from Kaj over on the finding out active learners list. I'll paste it below.
Gordon

begining of clip:
Another very simple game that I just did this morning, actually, is "this-that" janken. Give each student (or team with larger classes) about 4 or 5 cards, which they place text up on the floor or table in front of them. Do janken, except instead of the usual "scissors, paper, rock", use the target itself, "This-that, this-that, 1-2-3!".

The winner of the janken rolls the dice or takes a number card from a pile on the desk. If he/she rolls or takes 2-5, they say "What's that in English?" and point to one of the other student's cards. The student whose card has just been pointed to answers "This is a (cockroach)." and flips the card over so the image is showing.

If the janken winner rolls a 1 or a 6, however, they choose one of their OWN cards and ask the class, "What's this in English?", the class answers, "It's a (hippopotamus)." and the card is turned over.

When a student or team's cards have all been turned over, they are out.

Hope that helps.

I tried Kaj's idea this week with several classes with alot of success. Here's what I did:
1 divide the studetns into pairs
2 each pair junkens
3 the winner rolls the dice
4 They then can either
a.see who can say the card with the corrolating number first
b. winner asks the question and loser answers the question
c. Take turns making a sentence with the target card
5 If they say it right then they get to take a ball and shoot a basket.

Quite a fun a game.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for sharing this game. I never tried it though the title seems horrible to my ears who baptized this game anyway. If I want to change the title of the game what possibly it might be? Do you have any suggestions?

Please share.

All the best,

Jocelyn K.
